CODO Berlin 63: a bluff and strategy boardgame for 2 players

CODO Berlin 63: a bluff and strategy boardgame for 2 players

CODO Berlin 63 is a two-player boardgame based on a duel of bluff and deduction. Each player leads a team of super-spies in the midst of Berlin during the Cold War, with a mission to neutralize the opposing leader or make him lose all his reserve agents.

Choose your team of super-spies

Before engaging in the conflict, you’ll need to choose your team of agents. Each of the 8 agents has his or her own power, so you can create a variety of combinations and strategies! Before secretly choosing your team, you’ll receive a face-down Leader card which tells you which agent will take on this role for the game. This agent must be part of your team of 5 super-spies. The 3 remaining agents form your Reserve: they can be brought into play later in the game through one of the game’s actions: illusion.

Create an Illusion

Creating an illusion is one of two actions you can take on your turn. Select 2 of your super-spies (2 from the board or 1 from the board and 1 from your reserve), and shuffle them under the table. Replace them in the same position, inverting them… or not! Illusion allows you to sow doubt in your opponent’s mind, as well as helping you to avoid dangerous situations (if your opponent knows the identity of one of your agents, for example).

Activate a super-spy

When you activate a super-spy, you move it one space orthogonally and can also trigger a super-spy power. You announce to your opponent the supposed identity of the super-spy hidden behind the base, whether it’s true or not; you describe the action you wish to take with the power of this super-spy, without ever revealing it. That’s the core of the game: bluffing and using the right power at the right moment, while planting doubt in your opponent’s mind!

Believe me, or not

Will your opponent take the risk of challenging your claim?

Following your announcement, your opponent has two options: decide to believe you and the power is triggered (a) OR challenge your claim (b).

In the latter case, two outcomes are possible:

  • You were telling the truth! The power is triggered as announced, and your opponent loses one of the super-spies in his reserve.
  • You were lying! The power is not triggered and you lose one of your super-spies from your reserve.

The game continues until one of you catches the opposing leader, or one of the teams runs out of reserve agents.

CODO Berlin 63 is a game that combines bluff and strategy, and promises fast-paced games full of twists and turns! The game will be released next sprint, and you can now add it to you BGG wishlist!
