In the Footsteps of Darwin : Correspondence Expansion

The journey goes on!
England, 1856. Charles Darwin wrote “On the Origin of Species” during a period of great intellectual and personal intensity. Published in 1859, the book was based on years of research and observation that began during his voyage on the HMS Beagle (1831-1836). Darwin worked intensively on his ideas about natural selection and the evolution of species, accumulating evidence from his observations in botany, geology, and zoology.

New game features
Correspondences is an expansion for In the Footsteps of Darwin that opens new strategic opportunities with new game components:
- The England board gives you access to specific tiles,
- Classify animals to score extra points,
- Correspond with distinguished characters,
- Write Advanced Publications first.
In addition, there are 21 new tiles: 16 Animals from 4 continents and 5 new Characters.

What are the major new features of the In the Footsteps of Darwin expansion?
Follow the turn structure of the base game. Even though the game lasts 12 turns as in the base game, you will get additional opportunities to place more tiles on your Naturalist’s notebook during the game, thanks to the new immediate bonuses and special actions from this expansion.
When you place a tile from this expansion, resolve their immediate bonus icons, if any:
- Correspondence icons earn you an Envelope, which you can later use to acquire a Character or Animal from the England board.
- Classification icons let you draw a random token from the cloth bag, which you position in the right place in your Naturalist’s Notebook. If you discover an animal corresponding to this Classification token, you’ll receive a 2-point bonus at the end of the game!
- Finally, the Emblematic function has been replaced by the Movement of Charles Darwin on the England board. As he moves, Darwin can grant you Envelopes and/or Classification tokens.

From Advanced Publications to Charles Darwin's movements
Correspondence encourages you to pay attention to what your opponents are doing! Some spaces on the England board are more interesting than others, so it’s important to reach the best bonuses before the others do.
Similarly, the expansion introduces Advanced Publications, which reward more generously the first naturalist who manages to finish a specific row or column on his or her notebook. So, if you observe all the species in Africa, you’ll take the Advanced Publication associated with Africa!
An extension-specific Appendix booklet is included, enabling you to learn more about the new animals you encounter!
